Lancs FC

In the winter when the fairs are closed, and during the season when time allows, showmen enjoy an active social and sporting life. Underpinning much of this are the activities of the Lancashire Showmen’s Football Club (Lancs FC), whose history is almost as long as the Guild itself.

In 1907, a group of Lancashire fairground operators met in Bolton with a view to forming an official showmen’s side. The first game, against colleagues from across the Pennines in Yorkshire, ended victoriously for Lancashire, and the team has remained at the forefront of the game ever since.

The club’s 100th anniversary was celebrated in grand style when over 1,000 guests attended a Ladies Night gala event at Bolton Wanderers’ Reebok Stadium in November 2007.

Today, Lancs FC play as part of the Manchester Amateurs Sunday League, and also compete regularly against other showmen’s football teams from all over the UK. Together, the A-team, B-team and youth sides represent a formidable force!

For players, supporters and proud parents alike, the competitions and associated social events play an important part in building bonds between showmen across the country and we hope this sportsmanship helps foster a sense of fair-play in their professional lives too.
